Wireless connection is 700 km away

The Polytechnic University of Turin has set a technological record with the invention of a Wi-Fi connection between a sensor and a receiver more than 700 km away, specifically between Sardinia
and Spain.

The experiment began in 2017 and was conducted by iXem Labs universities, which have always been committed to digital research, with the goal of building an autonomous and alternative system for collecting mobile data applicable in any country, even remotely, regardless of energy availability and coverage conditions.

For the system to be stable and reproducible, two essential features are required: very low power consumption and long distance connections.

To make the experiment real, the sensors are reduced to a minimum, equipped with very small antennas (less than 2 cm) with power supplied by two simple, alkaline, non-repairable batteries.
