There is a reason why movies are not released the moment they are ready.
That’s because there are a number of factors to consider, such as whether or not there are movies that are similar in nature that could potentially distract viewers from launching a new movie, how many people are free to watch the movie (e.g. during the holiday season), etc.
So far the studios have had no problem deciding on a release date, but in the future, getting a release date could have been much easier and more efficient, at least in the case of Warner Bros. films.
This is after the film studio has announced that they will be working with Cinelytic and will use the company’s AI to help make more informed decisions about when a movie should come out.
According to Tonis Keys, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. Pictures International Distribution, “Warner Bros. is excited to use Cinelytic’s flagship system.
In our industry, we make difficult decisions every day that affect how we produce and distribute films in theaters around the world, and the more accurate our data is, the better we will be able to engage our audience.
“Cinelytic claims that with their AI platform, it will help reduce the “low-value, repetitive tasks” that studio executives may be dealing with, and instead “focus on generating actionable insights for packaging, greenlighting, marketing and real- time distribution decisions. ”
It is not yet known how effective this system will be, but it will be interesting to see how it works.
