Sony unveiled the official PlayStation 5 (PS5) logo last night at the CES 2020 (Consumer Technology Association) conference in Las Vegas. Sony has also shown that it has sold more than 5 million PlayStation VR (virtual glasses) since the launch of this product in October 2016.
In addition to sales, Sony has shown that it has sold 104 million PS4 consoles, making it the second-best-selling video game console in history after the PlayStation 2, which holds the record with 158 million units sold.
The official PlayStation 5 logo looks as expected, with Sony once again following the PlayStation 3 and 4. logo design. While the font is the same and there are no extras, the only difference in design between the PS3, PS4, and PS5, is the number, where it is now 5.
The PlayStation 5 is expected to launch in December this year as details of the much- awaited console have begun to roll out. It’s not yet known what the console will look like, but Sony has indicated that the PS5 will support 8K graphics, beam tracking, and have a fast SSD to reduce charging time. Meanwhile, the hardware front is expected to have an eight-core CPU (based on AMD’s new Zen 2 architecture), and a custom GPU, based on AMD’s Radeon Navi hardware.
